Badminton core training improved smash accuracy at 8 weeks

By

In short

In a randomized trial of 40 female badminton players, adding an 8-week core program improved smash accuracy across three conditions. This supports a skill outcome, not a claim that core work increases barbell 1RM.

A useful training outcome does not have to be a heavier barbell. A badminton study published on October 5, 2026 reported improved smash accuracy after additional core training. For a player who also lifts, that raises two separate questions: whether gym performance changed and whether the shuttle reached its intended target more consistently. A training diary should preserve that distinction instead of assigning every improvement to strength.

What differed between the training groups?

ComparisonTrainingOutcome
Experimental groupRegular practice + 8-week core programStationary, jumping and moving smash accuracy
Control groupRegular practiceAccuracy under the same three conditions

Forty female players were randomly assigned, with assessment before, during and after the intervention. The abstract reports improvement across the experimental group's three conditions but supplies no percentage gain in accuracy. That missing magnitude matters: a statistically supported direction is not a promise that an individual recreational player will improve by a particular amount.

Does holding a longer plank guarantee better shots?

The abstract does not identify a best exercise, set count or weekly schedule. A structured program is a package; its outcome cannot be assigned to one plank variation without a separate comparison. In practical logging, record the core exercise you actually performed and keep a court accuracy check as a different outcome. A longer exercise hold and a more accurate shot may both be useful, but they answer different questions.

How can a diary separate skill from strength?

  1. Choose the smash condition and target area before comparing sessions.
  2. Record attempts and target hits separately under the same conditions.
  3. Use fairlift for the exercise loads and repetitions actually completed, keeping the skill score distinct.

This logging sequence is an editorial application, not a protocol tested by the study. Its purpose is to keep the meaning of a result visible. The Muscle Index calculator uses Big Three 1RMs; a target-hitting score cannot replace a lifted maximum. The related squat skill practice study offers another example of why the exact task behind an accuracy score matters. A skill result deserves its own record rather than being converted into kilograms.

Findings in female badminton athletes do not establish effects in male beginners, injury prevention or maximal strength. Do not present exercise details, frequency or percentage gains absent from the abstract as the study's prescription.

Frequently asked questions

Did core training improve smash accuracy?

Accuracy improved in the female players who added an 8-week core program to regular practice. The result does not guarantee the same benefit at every playing level.

Which core exercise and how many sets should I use?

The available abstract does not establish an exercise selection or set count. One chosen exercise should not be treated as equivalent to the complete research program.

Does a better smash raise Muscle Index?

Muscle Index uses Big Three 1RMs and body information. An improvement in smash accuracy does not directly change that score.
